Homemade Rolls

Making homemade Rolls is actually pretty easy. It sounds difficult, but once you try it for the first time you will never go back. I'm going to give you a basic, easy recipe that is good for beginners.

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour more or less as needed
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • sea salt flakes for sprinkling on top

Instructions

First, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the hot water (first 3 bullet points). You let this sit for about 5 minutes. It starts to look foamy. That's when you know its time to move to the next step.

Second, add the softened butter, salt, and 1 cup of four to the mixer. Begin mixing at a slow speed. Start adding 1/4 cup of remaining flour at a time until the dough is formed. You may not use the entire 4 cups of flour and that is ok.

Set dough aside (covered) to let it rise for about 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

After dough has risen, roll in to about 20 balls and place in a greased pan.

Bake 13-15 minutes

Butter rolls during the last 3-4 minutes

It is really easy to make bread. If you start with this recipe, you will begin to try making all kinds of stuff! I recently made Pita! That was fun to do! I will post a recipe for Pita soon. I hope you enjoy your homemade rolls!
